Community Survey Will Shape Southampton's Future

Southampton citizens have an opportunity to express issues, concerns, and recommendations for the future of the town through a community-wide survey just released by the Southampton Master Plan Committee. Survey results will help the committee develop a long-range plan that will guide decisions facing the Town of Southampton over the next 10 to 20 years. This comprehensive Master Plan will guide future decisions facing the community in several important areas: land use, open space, housing, economic development, natural resources, recreation, energy and sustainability, education, public services and facilities, and transportation.

Citizens are strongly encouraged to take the survey online at the Southampton Master Plan website at www.southamptonmasterplan.org. Citizens may also obtain paper survey forms at the Town Hall, the Transfer Station, the Senior Center/Edwards Public Library, and Pure Foods. Responses will be accepted until April 2, 2010.

The results of this survey will be presented during a series of visioning workshops slated for April 8, 10, and 14. All Southampton residents are urged to attend these workshops, where they will also learn the results of earlier stakeholder interviews and will participate in developing a vision for the future of the town.

The Master Plan Committee, formed in September 2009, consists of 16 town officials and citizen volunteers who will be working on the plan over the next several years.
